Novak (Victor Lanoux) is a police inspector to whom any means is fair in getting evidence on criminals - especially drug dealers. He is after a drug ring that includes a city official and desperately needs evidence to bring the corrupt politician to trial, and to close down the ring. 

Pierre Michel, a young magistrate who's moved south from Metz with his family, is appointed a judge of organized crime. He decides to attack The Connection, a gangster organization that exports heroin throughout the world.

A serial killer steeps Marseille in blood. Louis Schneider, a cop at the regional crime squad, leads the investigation, despite his taste for alcohol and the ghosts of his past. The past also rises to the surface for Justine.

Céline, a fifteen-year-old teenager, has been relying on her own resourcefulness since she ran away from her legal guardians. She finds refuge in an outbuilding of a bourgeois house belonging to a judge and his wife, Monsieur and Madame Van Eyck.
