Pierre Michel, a young magistrate who's moved south from Metz with his family, is appointed a judge of organized crime. He decides to attack The Connection, a gangster organization that exports heroin throughout the world.
France’s answer to William Friedkin’s French Connection, La French (The Connection), starring Jean Dujardin, focuses on the true story of the fight against organized crime in Marseille in the 70’s, in a style reminiscent of Jean-Pierre Melville and Martin Scorsese.
Synopsis
The crime thriller and mafia genre may seem like it was born in America with all the classics from Brian de Palma, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, but the genre finds its true roots in France with films like Jacques Deray’s Borsalino and Co, Jean Pierre Melville’s Le Cercle Rouge or Henri Verneuil’s Le Clan des Siciliens. La French tries to reinvigorate the genre by telling the story of the French judge Pierre Michel, who famously went after the organized crime families in Marseille and especially gangster Gaëtan Zampa. La French is a thrilling game of cat and mouse and features Jean Dujardin as an obsessed and daredevil judge in one of the best roles of his career.
